The 5 Factors of Health
Have you ever sat and wondered to yourself..."am I healthy?" For many of you this question may arise often, for others not so much. Before getting to the answer it is important to define health.
According to the World Health Organization health is "a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." In essence, to be healthy means that your body functions well over all, at it's highest potential. The next question to ask yourself is..."how is health achieved?" The answer is to focus on the 5 factors of health and subsequently health will be well within reach.
5 Factors of Health Breakdown:
1. Diet- You are what you eat! Avoid processed foods, consume lots of fruits, veggies, protein, and keep grains and legumes to a minimum. It is also beneficial to take a muti-vitamin which will fill in any nutritional gaps.
2.Exercise- Bottom line....it is virtually impossible to be healthy without regular exercise. Simply walking will do the trick! Create an active lifestyle by adding in a little physical activity every day.
3. Minimize toxins- We are constantly subjected to toxins from beauty products, pesticides, pollution, etc. Do your best to keep these to a minimum! Use natural products (try shopping at Sprouts and Whole Foods) and eat organic food whenever possible.
4. Positive mental attitude- Have you ever met people who are always in a bad mood? Notice how they are typically plagued with health problems? Exactly. Our thoughts have an influence on our chemistry and can really change how our body functions. Keep a positive mental attitude and remember in many cases it is mind over matter!
5. Proper nerve flow- the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, and spinal nerves) controls every function in our entire body from sleeping to eating to healing from injuries. Therefore, it is really important to make sure it works at it's best. This is done via the chiropractic adjustment. The adjustment removes the interference on the nervous system which allows your body to work more efficiently. Without proper nerve flow TRUE health will never be attained.
